Remote Learning

During the closure of the school due to Covid-19 we are providing resources to support parents with their children’s learning at home. In the event of further closures, or periods of individual or bubble self isolation, we are continuing to use Google Classroom or Tapestry (FS 2) for those children unable to attend school.  We attach the following 3 key documents:

The Remote Learning Policy

The Remote Learning Information Flyer

The Alderwood Remote Learning timetable

Alderwood Remote Learning Timetable

The timetable above is the Alderwood, overarching timetable which details the timings of the day in order to support you and the children with structure and routine.  Timings of the live sessions will not change, but subject may alter slightly.  All changes will be made clear on the Google Classroom stream.  Children are also asked to join a registration session on Google Meet at the start of morning and afternoon sessions.

Google Classroom and Google Meet Live Lessons

All children have a reminder of their Google Classroom login in their home learning book or, for new children or those starting to use Google Classroom recently, parents have been emailed login details.
We have now welcomed Reception to Google Classroom. They will be able to access live sessions through Google Meet, but their learning tasks will remain on Tapestry.

Instructions for using Google Classroom and protocols are attached below.

We have increased the provision of remote learning.  Each week teachers are posting slides used in school on Google Classroom.  In addition to this, from January 2021, teachers are providing one live lesson each day which, in case of sharing devices at home, will be available for the rest of each day as a recording. As before, all other lessons have a Loom or other accompanying video to support explanations.

As before, each week the teachers will indicate the learning which can be uploaded.  All uploaded learning will receive a feedback comment for the children.

Children must be logged in with their own Google login. See attachment below.

Google Meet does not work on Safari browser. Mobile devices need an app.

Google Meet Parental Consent

Google Classroom for Assemblies
During whole school closure, virtual assemblies will be posted on the stream in each Google Classroom.

Music Provision

Mr Gregory is providing weekly music appreciation assemblies.  These can also be found on the stream in the Google Classrooms.

Other Alderwood logins (all detailed in home learning book)

As part of maths provision at Alderwood, pupils in Years 1-6 also have logins for MyMaths and TimesTables Rockstars, both of which are accessible from home at all times.

Pupils also have logins for Language Angels.

Further resources
In the event of whole or partial closure, there are many websites providing a wealth of resources for home learning including the government website and BBC Bitesize. We have listed some of these on the Further Resources page for you to look at as required. While it is valuable to have so many resources available, seeing so many can be daunting. They are there so you can select ideas and support for learning you are doing at home, and can be fitted in between equally important fresh air, exercise and downtime.  The teachers will, at times direct pupils to certain ones.

Keeping you informed
We will keep you informed regularly of provision for home learning in letters to parents and letters to children.
The Compass Partnership Trust are also sending regular letters home.

Contact us for help
If you need assistance, for instance with logins, then please use the Alderwood contact address and we will endeavour to help.
